- What is Olaplex?
Heard about Olaplex but don't know what it is? From stars like Kim K and Ariana Grande raving about the hair product, we're bringing it to you... Olaplex has quickly become the hair treatment hero in Salons across the world, however it's hardly surprising due to it being the ONLY scientifically proven technology to actively repair severely damaged hair, which is fantastic news for those who bleach or dye hair regularly. The amazing formula isn't just for damaged hair, it can be used on all hair types as it adds a beautiful glossy, shine finish to the hair keeping it looking healthy for longer, damaged or not. Olaplex is currently only available in Salons in the UK, however you can buy Olaplex aftercare from in-salon and on our website such as Olaplex No 3; an at home treatment. Originally a three-step system with Step 1 & 2 salon only, they've now brought out Olaplex No 4 & 5 which is an at-home shampoo and conditioner to keep hair feeling and looking healthy all day every day. Formulated with Olaplex's patented bond-building chemistry, this strengthens hair alongside hydrating, restoring broken bonds, reduce frizz and boosts shine. Both are free from sulphates, parabens, gluten and vegan-friendly. What makes Olaplex different? Olaplex isn't just an ordinary hair conditioning treatment, in fact they do not even use the word 'conditioning' anywhere in their advertising. It's a system that permanently rebuilds damaged disulphide bonds in your hair that are broken during a chemical process such as bleaching, colouring and heat damage from straighteners or curling irons. Olaplex allows you to rebuild strength, structure and integrity of your hair; a 'reset' of your locks, if you will. The system has allowed colourists to do work that they'd only dreamed of before, Black to White blonde in one session is now possible. The 5 stages of Olaplex: Olaplex is a five-part treatment, the first two steps have to happen in a salon, with three maintenance steps at home. First, Olaplex Number 1: Bond Multiplier is for professional in-salon use - and can be put on the hair as a standalone treatment, or if you're getting your colour done, it is mixed in with the bleach and put straight onto your hair in foils. Olaplex Number 2: Bond Perfector is then put on the hair once the bleach is rinsed out, usually at the back wash. This is left on for a good 20 minutes to really get the most out of its chemical mending. Olaplex Number 3: Hair Perfector, £32, is where you take things into your own hands. This take-home treatment is recommended for use once a week and is best applied before your shampoo and conditioner. Apply 1-3 teaspoons to dampened hair and comb through evenly. Leave on for 10-30 minutes or do as Kimmy K does and leave overnight. Olaplex Number 4: Bond Maintenance Shampoo, £25.85, can replace your regular shampoo for a hydrating, strengthening top-up at every wash. Olaplex Number 5: The Bond Maintenance Conditioner, £25.85, is the final step in the treatment to hydrate and smooth hair and is recommended to be left on for three minutes before rinsing. What does this mean for you? We at Mark James Hair LOVE Olaplex and its truly a hairdressing world break-through, we can now offer clients silky smooth bleached hair from dark brown to platinum blonde/silver in one session. - Balayage vs Ombré; What's the difference?
You've probably heard of these insanely popular words across the internet, youtube videos or in adverts, but do you know the difference? The popular colouring techniques have grown and stayed relevant even into 2019 due to the high-demand in salons across the UK. Balayage and Ombré still are the hottest hair trends around, it's no secret the influence on internet viral trends cause this, but we've noticed it's just not dying off. We've been part of hair crazes way back starting over 30 years ago, well before the internet was as big or influential as today. I bet you remember 'The Perm' back in the 80's? Yep! we were part of that craze too. While since perms have gradually died off over the years; until just recently they are making a come back. The interesting thing is that, Balayage and Ombré, unlike perms didn't 'die off' and are still a hugely popular technique customers are requesting. So that brings us to the main question... what's the difference between Balayage and Ombré? Balayage The word 'Balayage' is french which closely translates 'to paint' or 'to sweep' which would actually make sense because Balayage is a free-hand technique hairdressers use to essentially paint the hair with dye in a sweeping motion, starting from root area sweeping down to the mid-lengths and ends or vise-versa, depending on the desired look. Painting dye on to the hair creates a natural look with multiple dimensions of colour throughout the hair. The great thing about this is, it's completely customisable to you! - meaning you could be the only one with that look. Ombré The word 'Ombré' means shade in French. An Ombré is a solid, gradual look that would usually have a darker shade at the roots to mid-lengths and going lighter on the ends. The technique involved is dying the roots to mid-lengths with a darker colour, then bleaching the ends. It's recommended to always seek hairdressers advice when bleaching, to determine whether the strength of your hair can take the bleach without breaking - Ombré is a fairly difficult technique to get right, likewise with Balayage, so a 'DIY' solution or watching a youtube instructional video is not advised. Both Balayage and Ombré are fantastic ways of lightening your hair without worrying about the up-keep, they're great for natural looks as well as vivid crazy colours. For all the brunettes, these techniques are a brilliant option to trial out lighter shades, whilst keeping your darker natural colour to eliminate up-keep and regrowth. They both add stunning colour and dimensions to the hair and are suitable for all hair types, they're fully customisable to you; with option to change looks easier than other methods of colouring. If you're looking to try a new look, we're offering a FREE* Cut & Blow dry with a creative colour service such as Balayage or Ombré.
